The official textbook is the 3rd Edition of Beginning & Intermediate Algebra written by Sullivan et al and published by Prentice-Hall (Pearson). In addition to Section 1.1 (which is not about math), we cover Chapters 6–10, except for Sections 8.2, 8.6–8, 9.7, and 10.6&7. Here is the complete list of covered sections: 1.1, 6.1–7, 7.1–8, 8.1, 8.3–5, 9.1–9.6, 9.8&9.9, 10.1–10.5. Here they are again, in the approximate order in which I intend to cover them: 1.1, 6.1 (most), 6.4 (part), 9.1–6, 9.9, 10.1&2, 6.1–6, 9.8, 10.3, 6.7, 7.1–5, 7.7&8, 8.1, 8.3–5, 10.4&5. (The main idea in this arrangement is to get to the most practical material as quickly as possible and not worry too much about theoretical elegance at first.) I'll announce it ahead of time if I change this order further. (For the schedule of due dates for assignments, check the homework page.)
The last day to drop the course with a full refund is July 21 Tuesday; the last day to drop at all is August 24 Monday. By August 20 Thursday, your midterm grade estimates should be available on WebAdvisor; your final grades should be available there on September 25 Friday, or on September 24 Thursday if you're graduating this quarter. Follow your grades on Moodle if you want to know them faster.
