Schedule

The first day of class (October 6 Monday), I'll discuss the administrative aspects of the course and give a brief introduction to the basic ideas of calculus. If you miss this day, then you shouldn't suffer too much for it, but you'll want to get the administrative information from me. The next day (October 7 Tuesday), the class will begin in earnest.

The official textbook is the 2nd Edition of University Calculus: Early Transcendentals published by Addison Wesley (Pearson). Roughly speaking, we cover Chapters 1 through 5 of the official textbook (although Chapter 1 is considered review), plus enough of Chapter 6 as we have time for. Here is the complete list of covered sections: 1.1–6, 2.1–6, 3.1–11, 4.1–8, 5.1–6, 6.1–4. Here they are again, in the order in which I intend to cover them: 1.1&2, 2.5, 2.3, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.1, 3.1–3, 3.11, 3.6, 3.7, 1.5&6, 3.8, 1.3, 3.5, 3.9, 3.4, 3.10, 4.2, 4.5, 4.1, 4.3, 1.4, 4.4, 4.6, 5.2, 5.1, 5.3, 4.8, 5.4–6, 6.3, 6.1&2, 6.4, 4.7. I'll announce it ahead of time if I change this order. (To follow what we've covered so far, the easiest thing to do is to check the homework page.)

The last day to drop the course with a full refund is October 13 Monday; the last day to drop at all is November 13 Thursday. By November 10 Monday, your midterm grade estimates should be available on WebAdvisor; your final grades should be available there on December 22 Monday. Follow your grades on Moodle if you want to know them faster.
