Welcome to the home page for section ES31 of MATH-1700 (Calculus 2) at Southeast Community College in the Winter term of 2015. I am Toby Bartels, the instructor.

Assignments

If you miss a homework assignment, then you can find it here. Eventually some solutions to graded homework will show up here too.

Attendance (taken every day);
Homework (assigned about every other day);
Final exam (March 18 Wednesday).

Although only homework and the final exam contribute directly to your grade, attendance is also important.

Resources

The official textbook for the course is the 2nd Edition of University Calculus: Early Transcendentals published by Addison Wesley (Pearson). You should be able to get this at the bookstore, and most homework problems will come from it. (This same book is used for MATH-1600 and MATH-2080 too, so you might want to check all three shelves in the bookstore.) If you pay for it, you can also use MyMathLab integrated into the Moodle course; this is optional.

I also have some lecture notes, hand-outs, links, and so forth. If you missed class, then you might be able to find a substitute here. But there is no guarantee that everything will show up!

Here are some links to computer algebra systems that will do integrals (as well as much more):
- Sage (free to download, free to use online with an account);
- Maxima (free to download);
- Maple ($99 or more to download);
- Wolfram Mathematica ($45 or more to download);
- Wolfram Mathematica Online Integrator (free to use online with no account, indefinite integrals only);
- Wolfram Alpha (free for some uses online with no account, $3 per month or more for advanced features with an account, or $3 for a smartphone app with some advanced features).
Convergence tests (handed out on March 3 Tuesday, covering §§9.2–6): DjVu format, PDF format.
